The Challenge About the Race: The first Superior 600 Solo Challenge will be sailed in the summer of 2012. It will follow a circular course around Lake Superior and at 615 nautical miles will be he 2nd longest sailboat race in the Great Lakes. It will be run every other year on even years as compared with the Superior Solo Challenge which is run on odd numbered years. Participation is only opened to GLSS members who have previously completed a Solo Challenge in one of the Great Lakes. The Course & UNIQUE Starts! The Superior 600 Solo Challenge is unique in that it will have four separate but simultaneous starting points: Superior, Wisconsin; The Apostle Islands, Wisconsin; Whitefish Point, and Thunder Bay Ontario. Boats will finish at the same point they started. All boats will start at the same time and each course measures 615 nautical miles. Application: No online entry form is available for this race. Use the entry form listed below. Equipment Requirements: Applicants are cautioned to read the equipment requirements carefully as there have been several changes over the last few years. SOLAS Flares Offer: The required SOLAS flares must be within the manufacturer's service period, in other words, have not exceeded the expiration date stamped on the flare. The 2 SOLAS orange smokes are no longer required as approved by the GLSS Board on July 9, 2012. The equipment list has been modified to reflect this. Superior 600 Web Site: The Superior 600 can be entered as a singlehanded, doublehanded, or crewed race.
